DAMN, APRIL...
April didn't just bring showers, it brought Mercury into retrograde creating all this damn chaos, has my allergies acting up but besides all of that, it also brought me GOOD MUSIC!
Although, we still haven't gotten that collaboration project from Kendrick and J Cole we've been waiting for, these two kings released two different projects this month that I am extremely excited about. Also, there's some more new releases from a few other artists like Joey BadA$$, and SZA ft Travis Scott. Do y'all not see SZA?! AMAZING.
Let's jump right into it!
The return of Kendrick Lamar kicked off when Kendrick released ''Heart Part IV'' where he warned rappers to get their sh*t together. I am not a rapper but I still felt like I needed to get my shit together. Literally, because anything can happen when Cornrow Kenny, KUNG FU Kenny is in the same room and apparently MIKE WILL too. To follow up with ''Heart Part IV'' Kendrick then released his first single "HUMBLE" which spun a lot of controversy from a combination of Sheabuttertwitter and Bad feminist but for the most part it received so much love from the listeners, charts, & clubs.
YES, KENDRICK LAMAR HAS A CLUB BANGER! .
As we know GOOD FRIDAY was in fact that after Kendrick Lamar released his 5th debut album "DAMN". From BLOOD to DUCKWORTH my mind was blown. The album throughout will, in fact, have you like DAMN. You honestly don't know what to expect from Kendrick Lamar and that's what I love about him as an artist. This was a highly anticipated album. It's been two years since "To Pimp A Butterfly" and let's just say it was worth the wait. This album is truly a work of ART! Make sure you go support the ART!
J COLE teamed up with HBO again to release his second documentary called "4 your eyez only." which is also named after his 4th album.
The beginning of this documentary was crucial to me. The conversation amongst the people was about "The Voice" is what I like to call it. A lot of the times when bad things are going on in the world ( like police brutality or whatever this rigged ass system has up its sleeves) some of us look for celebrities to speak out on our behalf and when they don't some of us get upset or wonder why they aren't using their "voices." ANYONE CAN BE THE VOICE. In a crowd full of local Black residents including J COLE, a young woman in the group said "We need more like J COLE, who has a bigger voice" a guy from the crowd then replied "I wouldn't put that on him."' I wouldn't put it on nobody like that because ''YOU CAN BE A VOICE." She then went to say how she respects J Cole for that. Then the guy replied, "What I am saying is that you are hearing a voice" "You just said you needed somebody famous, right?" "So I just asked you on blast, WHO AM I?
What I love about this documentary was that J Cole traveled from places like Atlanta, GA his hometown Fayetteville, NC, Ferguson, MO to Mike Brown's neighbor exactly where he was killed, and Baton Rouge. The difference between this documentary and his first documentary was that this time J Cole let THE PEOPLE BE HEARD. This documentary was probably the best documentary I've seen in awhile. It showed a lot of unanswered questions, concerns, and pain behind blacks in America and that's the beauty of it. Please go check it out!
ALL AMERIKKKAN BADA$$
"Full house on my hands, the cards I was dealt Three K's, two A's in AmeriKKKa"
Joey BADA$$ is back with his sophomore album filled with unapologetic blackness from start to finish. Which was extremely dope to me. Joey Bada$$ has always been that artist who I've thought was way before his time with the way he delivered knowledge through his verses. We are living in terrible times and these three kings I've written about so far aren't afraid to express that through their art. Again, Please go support the ART!
LOVE G A L O R E.
*finally we can stop stalking TopDog's twitter page. Ha!
The First Lady of TDE, SZA just released her new single called "LOVE GALORE" ft. Travis Scott with the video and WE ARE IN LOVE! An addition to that good news SZA also announced that ''she ain't a orphan no mo'' she's signed to RCA records which makes her also apart of Sony family. Love galore will also appear on her up and coming project "Ctrl". This video was beautiful from start to finish and the end will shock you. From SZA babydoll look to the butterflies flying around and touching their skin. This video was directed by Nabil which who also directed Kendrick's video "DNA" with Don Cheadle. I know Beyoncé said "the best revenge is your paper" but this was by far the sweetest revenge. I mean who wouldn't want to get revenge on someone who kept playing games with their heart ? While looking like good doing? SZA was on to something... I can't wait to see what else she has in stores this year. Congratulations SZA!
Here's my treat to you guys here's the video below check it out! Also it's on iTunes.
